Project Name: Post Flood Rehabilitation Project (PFRP)

Project Implementation Period: 1999 to 2000

Funding Agencies: Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC)

Project Areas: 5 Upazila (Shibganj, Moharajpur, Gobratola, Baliadanga of Chapainawabganj district and Charghat Upazila of Rajshahi district

Total Project budget: 35,96,600

Project goal/objective: It was sub-project of WatSan Partnership Project and the main objective of this project was to rehabilitate the Water and Sanitary Infrastructures those were severely affected by the devastating flood in 1998. 

Major activities: Major interventions of this project included installation of tube-well of Jibon Pump (Jibon pump: the Jibon pump was developed by International Development Enterprise. It was low-cost technology) and 6 No hand pump tube-well, construction of latrines and dug well.

Implementation strategies: The implementation process was followed by involving Village Development Committees (VDC). The VDCs were managed the different process were; site selection, beneficiaries’ selection, cost sharing collection and ensuring the local level participation.

Major achievement: Under this project 413 Jibon Pump tube-wells, 210 6-No hand pump tubewell, 13450 sanitary latrines and 22 open and 40 covered dug wells were installed.

Lesson Learnt: Engagement of community people especially the VDC members were helped to identify the proper location of the sites and cost sharing collections. 

Challenges: Ensuring the quality of the construction of the latrine’s installation and use hygienic practices of the toilets.
